Electroporation DNA Delivery Results

Electroporation can significantly enhance the potency of DNA vaccines

Pre-clinical testing in large animal models has shown that Inovio's electroporation-based DNA delivery technology was able to increase antibody production more than 100 times.

Increased immune response: antibodies

Pre-clinical testing in large animal models has shown that Inovio's delivery technology increased the breadth and magnitude of T-cell production from a multi-antigen DNA vaccine against HIV. The test resulted in an increase in potency of the DNA vaccine by over 200 times. Such results would be considered to match or exceed those achieved using viral or lipid delivery methods, without the side effects that hamper these approaches.

Compelling first-in-man data using electroporation

Some of Inovio's partners have already reported data from an initial set of patients from first-in-man Phase I and Phase I/II clinical trials. The University of Southampton reported (May 2007) a significant antibody response to a prostate cancer DNA vaccine delivered using Inovio's electroporation DNA delivery technology. The highlights are shown below. In January, 2008, the investigators of this same clinical trial reported their vaccine had also generated significant T-cell responses. These results were published in a scientific paper, "DNA vaccines: precision tools for activating effective immunity against cancer", published in the peer-reviewed journal, Nature Reviews Cancer. The paper was co-authored by Christian H. Ottensmeier and Freda K. Stevenson, investigators in this Phase I/II prostate cancer clinical study at the University of Southampton (UK).

Prostate Cancer DNA Vaccine

Safely generating significantly heightened antibody and T-cell responses is precisely the goal that Inovio is aiming to achieve with its DNA delivery technology. With the positive, progressive results to date, it is becoming clear that Inovio's electroporation technology may provide multiple advantages over alternative DNA delivery technologies. We believe our DNA delivery technology has the potential to play a pivotal role in enabling delivery and enhancing the potency of preventive and therapeutic DNA vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases.
