The discovery and evolution of vaccination and the growing field of immunotherapies has created significant new opportunities to develop powerful new preventive and therapeutic treatments against diseases with significant unmet needs. These diseases include cancers and chronic infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C virus.
Within the field of immunotherapies, active immunotherapies such as DNA-based immunotherapies and DNA vaccines are the focus of considerable attention to create such breakthrough treatments. This next-generation of vaccines possesses the following promising potential attributes:

These disease targets include:

- Infectious diseases: HIV, hepatitis C, cytomegalovirus, bioterrorism targets.
Multiple products are in clinical studies, with positive interim human data already reported.
Inovio continues to pursue partnerships and collaborations and is also advancing preclinical work on proprietary agents.
