FAQs

Why did you change the name from Genetronics?

In 2004 our Board of Directors determined that it would be in the company's best interest to have a new company name to reflect the nature and evolution of our business. We are a biomedical company developing drug and DNA delivery systems that is primarily focused on using electroporation therapy to address critical unmet treatment needs in local cancer therapy. Our previous name, Genetronics, often lead to a narrower perception of our company's business focus, i.e. gene therapy, which was not in the company's best interest.

Why did you choose the name "Inovio"?

Our goal was to choose a name that was simple, compelling, and would not create limited perceptions of our company's business focus. After an initial effort to create possible name variations, we realized that with the acquisition of Inovio AS in January, 2005, we would have a name that is simple and compelling. The name characterizes "innovation" - an attribute we would like to be associated with our company. The right of use for Inovio has been established in Europe and the US. Having acquired Inovio AS, we already owned the corporate and domain name (www.inovio.com). In using this name, we were able to expedite the name change process and minimize costs related to the rebranding process.
